Planet Earth's distinctive use of satellite imagery and time-lapse effects were provided by design company Burrell Durrant Hifle, using NASA photography. Investment in new technology enabled the series to be edited and delivered without using videotapes. Post-production was carried out using BBC Resources' facilities in Bristol. In addition, the supporting team of scientists, guides, fixers, pilots, drivers and field assistants numbered in the hundreds or even thousands. They directed the film crews in the field, backed up by a team of production co-ordinators and researchers at the Natural History Unit's offices in Bristol, England. The individual episodes were overseen by six producers: Vanessa Berlowitz, Mark Brownlow, Andy Byatt, Huw Cordey, Jonny Keeling and Mark Linfield. The production duties were handled by the BBC Natural History Unit under the leadership of executive producer Alastair Fothergill. BBC Worldwide also funded the additional £7.4 million budget of Earth, the feature film. Together, the Discovery and NHK financing amounted to 60–70% of the cost of the series, which paid for the upgrade to the high-definition format. Under the terms of the deal, Discovery retained the US rights and NHK the Japanese rights, while BBC Worldwide retained the rights for the rest of the world. With a budget of £16 million, Planet Earth is the most expensive documentary series the BBC has ever made. The corporation signed a co-financing deal with the Discovery Channel and NHK (Japan’s state broadcaster), its production partners on The Blue Planet, to spread the cost of the ambitious project. There was also another accompanying television series, Planet Earth: The Future, which looked at the environmental problems facing some of the species and habitats featured in the main series in more detail. Earth was released around the world from 2007 to 2009. The idea for Planet Earth was born, and the series was commissioned by Lorraine Heggessey, then Controller of BBC One, in January 2002.Ī feature film version of Planet Earth was commissioned alongside the television series, repeating the successful model established with The Blue Planet and its companion film, Deep Blue. Programme commissioners were keen for a follow-up, so Alastair Fothergill decided that the Natural History Unit should repeat the formula with a series looking at the whole planet. Feedback showed that audiences particularly liked the epic scale, the scenes of new and unusual species and the cinematic quality of the series. It also became a hugely profitable global brand, eventually being sold to 150 countries worldwide. It received critical acclaim, high viewing figures and audience appreciation ratings and a string of awards. In 2001 the BBC broadcast The Blue Planet, a landmark series on the natural history of the world's oceans. At the end of each fifty-minute episode, a ten-minute featurette takes a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges of filming the series. The series comprises eleven episodes, each of which features a global overview of a different biome or habitat on Earth. For Discovery, the executive producer was Maureen Lemire, with Sigourney Weaver's voiceover replacing Attenborough. The original BBC version was narrated by David Attenborough and produced by Alastair Fothergill. By June 2007, it had been shown in 130 countries worldwide. Planet Earth was first broadcast in the United Kingdom on BBC One in March 2006, and premiered one year later in the USA on the Discovery Channel. The series was co-produced by the Discovery Channel and NHK in association with CBC, and was described by its makers as "the definitive look at the diversity of our planet". Was the most expensive nature documentary series ever commissioned by the BBC, and also the first to be filmed in high definition. Planet Earth is a 2006 television series produced by the BBC Natural History Unit.

They’re charged in the first challenge with reinventing that garment. That emotion is sometimes complicated: After the designers see (reproduced versions of) the outfit that got them eliminated from the competition, season 7’s Mila Hermanovski describes it as “trauma lane.” “You are all like my children,” Nina Garcia says after a montage of her verbally eviscerating their work. Project Runway season 1 contestant Nora Pagel at Mood during season 20’s first challenge (Photo by Zach Dilgard/Bravo)Īmid all of this, there’s a sense of reunion, of homecoming, of trying again, and it’s warm and fuzzy and just a delight to watch. I don’t disagree, and I also include Bishme in that category. “I’m here amongst greatness,” Bishme says, reflecting on watching Kara Saun as a teenager. The range of contestants-designers from more-recent seasons include Hester Sunshine and Prajje Oscar Jean Baptiste-means that some of them know each other as peers and friends, while others are celebrities. I was delighted to see so many of these people from the past back on screen-Kara Saun from season 1, Kayne from season 3, Rami from season 4. Season-one’s Nora Pagel was, back in 2004, a 21-year-old mohawked designer whose experience consisted of interning at a fashion house, while today she’s creative director at the same place, spending her time not at a sewing machine but managing other designers.Īnna Zahou has moved away from her palette of black and white and is working with bright colors now, reflecting the glee that having a kid brought into her life. Others are so close to their eliminations that being asked to revisit and reimagine the outfits that ousted them is quite raw. Some designers have moved on in their careers so they’re disconnected from the kinds of things Project Runway demands of its designers, such as sewing. 25.The start of Project Runway season 20, Bravo’s first all-star version of its flagship fashion design competition, opens as a meditation on the passage of time: on aging on evolving creatively on stepping back into an uncomfortable, challenging space. and Bunim/Murray Productions, is set to premiere at 9 p.m. Season two of the show, produced by The Weinstein Co. Project Runway: All Stars debuted in January, with Mondo Guerra (who writes Project Runway recaps for The Hollywood Reporter) being declared the season one winner. The winner of season two of Project Runway: All Stars will have the chance to create a custom-branded capsule collection for Nine West and will be awarded a cash prize of $150,000, a sewing and embroidery studio provided by Brother Sewing and Embroidery, an all-expenses paid trip around the world to attend fashion weeks in cities such as Paris, London, Milan and Tokyo courtesy of Laura Mercier and a technology suite/office space from HP and Intel to bring the designer’s creativity to life and run his or her business. The winner will also receive a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine and a position with the publication as contributing editor for one year. Others will include Kylie Minogue, Stacy Keibler, Liv Tyler, Gretchen Mol, Diane von Furstenberg, Jason Wu, Margherita Missoni, Charlotte Ronson, Rafe Totengco, Elie Tahari and fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson. Katie Holmes was previously revealed to be one of the season two guest judges. Mentor Joanna Coles, who left her longtime position as editor of Marie Claire last month for the same position at Cosmopolitan, will return, as will judges Isaac Mizrahi and Marchesa’s Georgina Chapman. Model Carolyn Murphy will take over hosting duties from Angela Lindvall. She earns through salaries from her appearances in TV series, films, theater plays, and providing vocals for animated films. Since then she starred in major production and accumulated a lot of wealth for herself. The biggest breakthrough moment of her career arrived in 2018 when she got a main role in Derry Girls. Our simulation found that respiratory rate can be accurately monitored during the procedure using a CO2 sampling bite block or a nasal cannula with oral cup. The two nasal cannulas without oral cups failed to provide sufficient CO2 for breath detection when the mouth was fully open and oxygen was delivered at 10 L/min. The difference became larger as the amount of oral breathing increased. Designed to separate gases for accurate EtCO2 signals and effective O2 delivery wherever capnography is indicated. The end tidal CO2 concentration (PETCO2) measured through the bite blocks and nasal cannulas was always lower than the corresponding PETCO2 measured at the trachea. Nasal Capnography should be used on all patients if available. It measures the CO 2 level during four phases of breathing. A capnogram is the visual display of the exhaled CO 2. We compared CO2 measurements taken from the sampling device to CO2 measurements taken directly from the trachea. Capnography is the measurement of exhaled carbon dioxide (CO 2 ). With front-wheel drive and the CVT, the turbocharged 1.3-liter achieves up to 32 mpg highway. Ironically, the larger of the two three-cylinder engines receives the highest fuel-economy ratings from the EPA. Tested: 2020 Encore GX Works Well, Bores Us.The Buick's ride is also agreeably smooth and controlled, but it doesn't offer any handling thrills. Thankfully, the Encore GX feels peppier than its acceleration results suggest, particularly around town where the small turbo engine makes the most of its reasonable low-end grunt. This is a bummer since the Encore GX's luxury-brand rivals offer more powerful engines and far quicker acceleration times. An all-wheel drive Encore GX with the larger 1.3-liter four-cylinder required a slothful 9.3 seconds to reach 60 mph. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) is standard on front-wheel drive models, while all-wheel drive variants upgrade to a nine-speed automatic. The base version is a 1.2-liter that develops 137 horsepower, and an optional 1.3-liter unit bumps that up to 155. The Encore GX lineup relies on a pair of turbocharged three-cylinder engines. All-wheel drive is optional and adds up to $2000 to the price of any Encore GX. The Experience Buick package adds navigation and a power sunroof. It comes with handsome 18-inch wheels, roof-rack side rails, an eight-way power adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, a rear-seat center armrest, remote start, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The best value in the lineup appears to be the midrange Select model. Otherwise, there are no other changes to the Encore GX this year. Moonstone Gray Metallic joins the list of available exterior colors for 2023. If you're wanting something truly upscale, we'll point you toward the BMW X1, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-class, or the Volvo XC40. It's the luxury vibe that the Encore GX is lacking. Even the base model is reasonably well equipped, as it features a number of standard driver-assistance tech and desirable infotainment features. Like other Buicks, the Encore GX prioritizes comfort over driving satisfaction. Buick offers Encore GX buyers two different turbocharged three-cylinder engines to choose from-a 1.2-liter and a 1.3-liter-but neither one delivers particularly notable performance. But its positioning in between the mainstream and luxury SUV segments leaves it lacking the traits to succeed in either one. Relaxed, quiet, and attractively priced, the 2023 Encore GX is everything we expect a junior Buick SUV to be. So if you decide to come around lunch time, be sure you are early especially when coming with a large group. By the time we finished around 2 pm, the crowd dwindled. Anyway, our waiter was nice & saw all the wait staff really worked fast & tried their best to serve all customers. For some reason, the wrap was light unlike the mexican flour tortilla. It cost about $35.99 not including tax & tip. Honestly there were still a lot of meat left in that duck but it was carted away to be made into soup. The duck was sliced in front of us & distributed to at least 10 or 12 wraps. We ordered the peking duck which was cooked 2 ways-1 is duck meat sliced & served in a flour wrap & 2 rest of the duck is chopped & made into soup. My husband & I were asked if we could share a table which we didn't mind because we were hungry. At lunchtime the place is packed & several customers were waiting to be seated.
